Purpose of Early Intervention Class
 
The Early Intervention class promotes learning through educational programs for children with disabilities who are below school age.

The Early Intervention class aims to:

  • support families in facilitating the development and care of their child
  • provide quality educational programs for children
  • support the co-ordination of interdisciplinary services to children and families
  • promote the generalisation of skills across environments
  • achieve co-ordinated transition to school procedures for children

Eligibility

Children from the age 3 years to school entry who have a disability are eligible for the intervention support class service.

Funding for the class is supported by a grant from the Commonwealth Young Children with Disabilities, Intervention Support Program. In order to comply with current Commonwealth program guidelines, the following definition of a child with a disability is used:

    ... a student (child) who has been accessed by a person with relevant qualifications as having intellectual, sensory, physical, social / emotional or multiple impairments (Commonwealth Programs for Schools, Administrative Guidelines p.48).

Age of children in program Hours

Two years nine months to six years of age.

     Variable - 2 half day sessions
       Activity Group- 2 hour duration.
